I live just North of YNP — man the stupid people!
I recall when I was in college at Montana State and Reagan was President a photographer from France was taking pics of wildlife and, as is the point of this story, bison: he gave his camera to a tourist and asked the bloke to take a photo of him (the photographer) next to a buffalo.
The photo was snapped just as the bison was removing the Frenchman’s head via it’s horn...the head landed 40’ away and the professional photographer never took another photo ever again...
I hike the back country of YNP and GNP about every other year.
Half the time, I run into Griz in one way or another. About 8 times by last count.
So I practice and carry a .357 Ruger Blackhawk flattop with Buffalo Bore hardcast. My practice is at an otherwise empty range where my buddy is range master.
I load up my daypack, chest holster my Ruger, run around the parking lot until winded, run up to the line, spin around 3 times until dizzy, draw, and drop 4 out 6 7” steel plates at 25 yards.
That’s as close as I can get to real world conditions for Griz.
