A few seconds later, a bison was strolling towards us on the other side of the road. He passed by us within a few feet of my car.
After the bison passed, I heard my grandson say, “Opa, I’m not bored anymore.”

Another sight in North Dakota’s Teddy Roosevelt, my daughter and I witnessed the birth of a wild foal.
The herd of wild horses gathered around the delivering mare, head toward her in labor, and dangerous back hooves all pointed out in a circle. That herd knew how to protect the newborn and mama while in childbirth.
We got to see the little thing stand up and take its first steps.
It’s been an interesting life out there.
