No matter what gets released....I'm sure thousands of pages have been destroyed....and I do believe the government has the right to secrecy in security matters.
Washington did it. Jefferson did it. And every President since has done the same.

The earlier Presidents that you mentioned destroyed papers that would have reflected poorly on them. The cleaner the records, the better to put the whole JFK assassination controversy to rest. Maybe Oswald was a lone nut and Best Evidence was right in its assertions. Or maybe not. If it was a conspiracy and a subsequent cover-up, almost everyone involved is dead. (I believe Marina Oswald is still with us.)
