Read up the Wikipedia article on the matter; it's actually pretty informative. There's already been a DNA test. And her own blood relatives deny that she has Native ancestry. And her birth certificate doesn't support the native angle.

When her brother wanted to speak out about her lies back at that the start of her career, she threatened legal action via an attorney, and when that didn't work, she threatened to publicly claim he'd molested her as a child.

She sounds like a real piece of work. And hell, just look at her- she's clearly using fake tan to make her skin look darker.

I believe her biological son had DNA test which revealed he had 0% Indian blood.

Her younger sister took a DNA test in an effort to prove her ancestry claims were true (because she should be of indigenous descent as well), and oops, it came back negative. It also came back as a close familial match to Buffy's son, which in turn verifies the relationships involved.

Buffy Sainte-Marie refuses to be directly tested for very obvious reasons, but it doesn't really matter- her ancestry has been determined already (other relatives, birth certificate, etc). She's a pretendian.

To me, her physical appearance looks like she has some “indigenous” ancestry but I suspect it comes from below the Rio Grande and not from Canadian tribes.
