There is a real SETI which has operated for forty years which has long "explored" and nothing has come of it regarding an advanced civilization other than on this green earth. Belief is an interesting human phenomenon, and it is very likely many who "believe" in alien visitation in all its varied storylines do not hold an equally strong religious belief.
Are there unexplained phenomena? Of course, and that's why they are "unexplained." For the ardent believer in UFOs, they have already "identified" albeit very loosely their "flying objects." Belief is strong, and doctrine required. Ergo, the government is hiding the aliens, or alien technology. And couple to this is "please support my work." Donate.
The revelations of government secrets in fraud and waste are far more important. Today's UFOs are Unidentified Funding Opportunities for frauds, crooks, partisan Leftist ideologues and perverts. And those "unidentified aliens?" They've been crossing the southern border in droves for years.
On a par with dis-belief.
Both are the product of closed minds.
True believers are exceedingly gullible. They are easy targets for con artists because ‘they want to believe’. Exactly what con artists looks for. The problem with in open mind is you risk your brain falling out.
SETI is looking for radio signals with highly directional antenna. A civilization would actually have to broadcast at very high power, and have started transmissions millions of years ago, and then had the dumb luck of an antenna pointed right at them. What are the odds?
On the other hand, there have been thousands of people over hundreds of years reporting unusual machines in the sky. Some think it is appropriate to ignore those accounts.
Why is that?

Did you know, that were more than one person who was at Roswell and involved with that event, on their death bed, admitted that there was a UFO crash involving alien beings? They were sworn to secrecy, but at that point in their lives, did not worry about anything on this earth.
