Democrats try to enter Department of Education amid outrage over possible DOGE cuts

Thirty House Democrats on Friday morning attempted to enter the Department of Education building in Washington, D.C., to meet with acting Education Secretary Denise L. Carter, but were stopped by security.

A man who said he was a federal employee did not make it clear why the lawmakers were not allowed into the building.

Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., asked the man whether he was doing so of his own volition or if he was ordered to block the door, to which the man responded that he was doing his job.

As they surrounded the man in front of the door, lawmakers repeatedly insisted that they had the right to enter the building and slammed the Trump administration over a "lack of transparency."

Key, must want to do it. The right person just has to give the order. I also knew the great RIF pretty well. I remember that just about nary a word was said. Neither was hardly a word said about Clintoons slashing welfare rolls.

It is hard to imagine the levels of waste when 10,000 can be released from one small agency of $40 Billions or more a year and leave it to be run by 300? WOW!

I had a client that officed in the same building as the regional IRS in Houston. It was 2009 or so. The people at the smoking station in the parking garage were a polyglot sight to see. Looked like a calico cat. When the doors opened for lunch or quitting time, always at least 30 minutes before the official time, you just didn’t want to be anywhere near or you would be trampled in the stampede.

What was really alarming though was that these same people had access to all my financial information.

I grew up close to the Corps of Engineers. It was a much different world in the 50s and 60s. It was a busy time of building dams and taming rivers in my young life. It was good work with accountability done with pride and performance. It was a little like the oilfield I went to, if you couldn’t get the job done and do it well you couldn’t stay. Sure, we had our share of slugs but they didn’t stay long. In operations jobs if you couldn’t hit the floor from a dead sleep and ready for action at 0200 you couldn’t compete or stay around long.
