Super Bowl ticket prices are plummeting
CNN ^ | Mon February 3, 2025 | Jordan Valinsky

The Kansas City Chiefs might make history this weekend, but ticket prices aren’t reflecting that.

The cheapest ticket for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans has fallen below $4,000 on the secondary market, according to reseller TickPick, marking a 30% decline over the past week — and more than 50% cheaper compared to last year’s record-breaking Super Bowl.

The Chiefs, who face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, are hoping to be the first team to win three successive Super Bowl rings. Despite that historic feat on the line, fans apparently aren’t excited to splash out big bucks.

There are a few potential reasons related to this year’s host city — and perhaps a slight dose of Chiefs fatigue.

Last year’s matchup between the Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers was the most expensive Super Bowl on record, partly because it took place in the party mecca of Las Vegas for the first time. However, New Orleans “doesn’t have the same appeal” as Las Vegas, TickPick CEO Brett Goldberg said.

New Orleans’ larger seating capacity is pushing prices lower as well, Goldberg said. The Caesars Superdome holds about 74,000 seats, whereas the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas holds around 65,000 seats. The host city is also still reeling from a terrorist attack last month when a man drove a pickup truck into a crowd and opened fire, killing 14 people and injuring at least 35.

Then there’s the matchup itself. Football fans are bored by a third straight Chiefs Super Bowl bid, resulting in TickPick “seeing less interest from fans looking to attend,” Goldberg told CNN. “Had the Detroit Lions, Washington Commanders or Buffalo Bills made it this far, it’d be a much different story as it relates to current prices.”

Going back watching Super Bowl broadcasts from the 70s and 80s

I remember when the half time show was “Up With People”. Cheesy, but in a good way. When I went in January 1996 it was Diana Ross, someone who was past her prime, but a legend with appeal to all ages. Now we just turn off the halftime show and say the rosary.

Fair officiating and KC would be a 10-6 team and been knocked out in the 1st round of playoffs. 100% of the game changing penalties have been wrongly called in favor of KC

It defies the laws of probability worse then the after midnight 2020 elections results did.

The Chiefs, who face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday and are scripted to win, will celebrate after the game
with Taylor Swift crying tears of joy as she ditches her schlub of a tight end Kelce and gets a room with Mahomes.

That would be entertaining, unlike the Super Bowl.

Condone thuggish players, allow satanic Super Bowl halftime shows and America hating kneelers, obviously rig some key big games….If I were attempting to destroy a national pastime and tear at the fabric of society this is what I would do.

Some of the greatest NFL games ever played were AFC and NFC championship games from the 1970s through the early 1990s. And many Super Bowls in that era were dull, one-sided games.

The Super Bowl always had the air of a silly, staged joke of a football game. If it wasn’t the halftime extravaganza and the inane fixation on the TV commercials that turned me off, it was the way they are always scheduled in warm-weather cities or domed stadiums. Nothing beats an NFC championship game in Chicago or Green Bay, or an AFC championship game in Cleveland or Buffalo.

The legacy media reaction to Trump is comedy Gold. They've just spent days discussing the calamity of the Mexico Tariffs....which never happened.
