Having been, in my past, part of the local power company’s “Large Transformer Health” program, I have had the opportunity to stand next to (physically ‘under’) banks of four 345kVA transformers.
The hum was amplified.
I met someone years ago that had worked in a large substation that converted high-voltage AC to 3,000 VDC, and he said that over time he came to really, really dislike the noise/vibration from transformers, rotary converters, blowers, etc.
Wouldn’t being close friends with 345,000VA pretty much make your hair stand up? I’d think standing hair would be sufficient notice to not spend much time nearby? Was that “
transformer health” program for the health of the transformers or the guys who work nearby?
