Discussion on Bannon this morning about speculation the helo pilot(s) were wearing night vision goggles and hindered their vision - this is really a stupid hypothesis because, think about it, you’re on a direct path right into the plane with its lights on - think about driving on the highway and there are cars on the other side with high beams on ... or driving into sunny area - if a pilot was so blinded, they’d pull their goggles up or off - not continue to keep them on for 17 seconds right into the plane.

The NVG discussion is amazing. IMO the greatest aviation safety device ever invented for helicopters. If NVG had so many limits and could be defeated so readily, why do all our SF and other combat players use them.

If the plane & helicopter are traveling the same forward speed, and their courses are about to intersect in a t-bone type collision, then on approach they are constantly at 45° to each other.

If wearing night vision goggles restricts vision to less than 90° (less than 45° to the left and less then 45° to the right), the pilot with goggles will never see the other aircraft unless he/she swivels their head to get a broader peripheral view.

If their speeds are different, the faster one will be at even more than a 45° angle to the side as they approach their intersection.
