A mountain in New Zealand is now legally recognised as a person after being granted all the rights and responsibilities of a human by the government.
The new law offers extra protection for Mount Taranaki - now known as Taranaki Maunga, its Maori name - and means it has all the rights, powers, duties and responsibilities of a person.
It is part of an agreement between New Zealand's government and the indigenous Maori tribes, which have long considered the 8,261ft mountain an ancestor.

Some years ago, a friend went to Australia for two years and worked diligently as a bricklayer while seeing the country on short holidays. He then returned to Florida with a tidy six figure sum that he used to open a business and buy a home. He details how a post Christian America, with the Biblical ideas of ‘all men being created equal’ and having worth because we are created in God’s image, will increasingly give way to might makes right, humans of greater and lesser value and the return of all we once escaped. So... giving mountains human status, worshiping nature, saying men can have babies, etc. are just the beginning. Enjoy Trump while we have him.
