Which means the Cola bears up on the North Pole should be thriving again. Climate Crisis is over. We’re back to, “if you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes.”

In my first job, I had a boss who loved water-skiing
He would be out on Lake Michigan in March or April, as soon as there was no ice in his path.
He had some kind of high-grade, insulated military wetsuit.
Seemed overzealous to me, but I suppose there’s worse hobbies to have....

In the air, hypothermia can develop in as little as five minutes in temperatures of minus -50°F/-45.5°C in people who are not dressed properly and have exposed skin. At -30°F/-34.4°C, hypothermia can occur in about 10 minutes. Death can occur in under an hour in extremely cold conditions.
People die of hypothermia faster in water than in air, because water has a high thermal conductivity that can cool a person at least 24-times faster than air.
A person who is immersed in near-freezing water at temperatures of 32.5°F/0.3°C will have symptoms of mild hypothermia in under 2 minutes and will be unconscious in less than 15 minutes, with an expected survival time of 15 to 45 minutes. -- E Medicine Heath

Isn’t Gilgo Beach where that serial killer killed all those hookers?
To: Puppage
I surfed Gilgo Beach before. I stayed the weekend on Long Island following a work trip years ago. Found out there was a bit of swell in the water, drove to the beach, met a local surf instructor named Pistol Pete, borrowed a longboard and paddled out. Small but fun summer waves. Good memories.

With a dry suit folks surf whenever there is a good break
Even the roaring 40s
I think some live to surf glacial ice floe drops and the huge waves those create
It wasn’t the decision to surf cold if prepared
It was something else

Having surfed in the PNW, winter water temps are only a few degrees cooler than summer. I suspect the same for Long Island sound etc. But if you have a wet or dry suit, that should not be a problem.
