I’ve never lived in a place that had gas. Growing up we had oil heat and everything else was electric. Now I’m in a condo that’s all electric...including heat. And we just got a notice saying we’re getting “smart” meters. So it won’t be long before our bull dyke Governor gets to set my heat...my A/C...my hot water...my stove.

My 2nd house in Pocatello is a 1947 vintage. It has a coal chute on the driveway side. By the time I purchased it in 2005, the house was updated to use natural gas with a 92% efficient burner. That furnace failed in 2017. I replaced it with a 95% efficient burner with commercial grade blower. The red brick chimney for the coal burning furnace remains. It could be repurposed as a simple fireplace for the basement at this point.
