Use ice packs on it, and google exercises for it. This all works.
I too had debilitating sciatica pain at various times. I’ve had significant relief using a Be Active Plus leg brace. Your mileage may vary, of course. Good luck!
Get elected to Congress as a Republican. Apparently all of them have their spines removed.
Just kidding, hope you get better soon!
Use ice packs on it, and google exercises/stretches for it. This all works.
i sleep withmy legs raised on my back … seems towork for me.
Well, first let me welcome you to Free Republic, Bruce, Kaitlynn, whatever your name is.
Sorry, I don’t have any help for you. My wife had sciatica and it’s a real pain in the ass. Hope a little humor went the right way for you.
Do you have a good chiropractor?
“Yoga can help with sciatica pain, but you should consult a physician before starting. In the acute phase, or if you have a severe herniation, it may be better to rest.”
Search ‘yoga poses for sciatica pain’.
Please look at the thread I put up yesterday:
Adopting a healthier lifestyle could help manage lower back pain

I mention some Type 2 collagen items in my initial comment.
I have had it, though to a lessor degree I imagine.
There are several stretches that can be quite helpful. You have to do them religiously of course. Helped me.
There is a physical therapist on youtube that has some.

Also, can I assume you have already gotten a shot of cortisone in the area? That’s usually done to reduce the inflammation.
Get a scan. Radiologist will likely be able to actually show you what’s causing the issue.
Worked for me. It was a Godsend!
Good luck. It’s horrible pain. My heart goes out to you.
I had terrible sciatica pain too. Couldn’t sleep, couldn’t walk, couldn’t sit. It was debilitating.
Turns out two of my disks were bulging putting pressure on the sciatic nerve. I tried exercise, stretching, meds and cortisone. The only thing that worked was lumbar laminectomy with microdiskectomy. You can see an animation of the procedure online. I’m now extremely careful with my back. If I can’t lift it with two fingers, then I don’t lift it.
I feel your pain - literally. I think a large part of addressing sciatic pain is dealing with inflammation at the pinched nerve. My pain varies from day to day in severity. When it becomes too severe, I'll take ibuprofen. Lidocaine rubbed into the hurting area can offer temporary relief. Sometimes I'll take 8-hour Tylenol before I go to bed, which helps me rest and at the same time relaxes muscles which can contribute to pinching the sciatic nerve.
My research on sciatic surgery and it's lack of long term success record makes it a no for me.
I, too, am in good health and recently had a bout.
My job does NOT involve 8 hours of sitting, but in my case sitting at home on a pillow under my right cheek totally eliminated my left side problem (it took about 6 months).
Sciatica and its complications are a progressive problem sometimes alleviated by simple changes.
But don’t assume: A friend of mine DOES sit for 8 hours/day and ultimately he was found to have massive blood clots in his femoral artery (they don’t know the cause; no, he did not have the jab). He survived, but the surgery’s effects are lingering almost a year later.
A simple test is the perfusion test to determine if there’s cause for alarm due to circulatory issues, described here if you’re not familiar. Compare the left to right toes. If they’re the same, there’s not likely cause for alarm, but neither am I a doctor. There are comprehensive tests an equipped medical office can perform to test your lower extremity circulation, but this is a simple one you can do from your chair.

You can start from here and then from various carnivore Doctors and clinicians videos on Youtube.
‘How Carnivore Cured My Chronic Nerve Pain & Sciatica’

Look up also the comments section for many other testimonies.
From my personal experience, it absolutely works because animal fats are anti-inflamatory. Carnivore has cured my toes pains and my wife’s back pain. I don’t even mention many other benefits to stay on topic. Never going back to the standard diet’s “eating healthy”.
Make sure to rule out arthritis. I had to get a hip replacement to help sciatic pain.
I think sciatica is a symptom ... the root cause must be identified and treated ...
Get an opinion on hip replacement
Its a life changer
Don’t wait out something going to get worse
But in the meantime what helps a lot is prescription grade muscle relaxers
Stretching exercises plus I went to an osteopathic physician (DO). No, this is not a chiropractor! They are trained in medicine like an MD and have same hospital privileges. Their osteopathic training gives them enough manipulative therapeutic techniques to be effective on things like sciatic. They guy I went to used to be a team doctor for “sports” at the local university. His treatment really helped. He also assigned me to a physical therapist. They did a rigorous stretching regime (which much of I still do!) on me. The stretching got the pain down to where the DO could work with me. Also, I was given some lower back strengthening routines that I incorporate into my normal workout.
80, 3 back surgeries for herniated discs, 1 fixed by chiro, 1 10mm herniation healed by the Lord, - I’m an expert, former runner until I was 69....sciatica about 6 times.
There are too many different causes of sciatica for anyone to diagnose it or give you something to fix it here. Only definitive thing to tell is an MRI.
Doc will insist on PT before MRI which may or may not help.
Only then can you know how to proceed with treatment, which can start very conservative......you never know.....
