One week of 12 ounces of elderberry juice a day reduced blood sugar 24%, insulin 9%, “significantly” increased fat oxidation (use), and “significantly” reduced bad gut bacteria while increasing good bacteria.

You can buy this as a concentrate at places like Amazon and reconstitute it to juice.

Elderberry, a small dark purple berry found on elder trees native to Europe,

I wonder which species. We have an elderberry (Sambucus mexicana) that is native to California.

12oz/day is a lot of elderberries.

In other words, eat a healthy diet as much as you can.

Hard to draw sweeping conclusions with a remarkably paltry sample size for analysis (n=18).

I eat about 1 5 cups of frozen blueberries per day for my anthocyanins. Here’s the comparison:

What is the anthocyanin load for 12 ounces of elderberry juice versus 1.5 cups of frozen blueberries?

The anthocyanin load in foods varies depending on factors such as the specific variety of the fruit and how it is processed. However, I can provide an estimated comparison based on typical values for elderberries and blueberries.

Elderberry Juice (12 ounces): On average, elderberries contain about 1.5 to 2.5 mg of anthocyanins per gram of fresh fruit. For 12 ounces of elderberry juice (about 340 grams), the anthocyanin content would be roughly 510 to 850 mg, assuming the juice is rich in anthocyanins. The amount can vary depending on how concentrated or processed the juice is.

Frozen Blueberries (1.5 cups): 1.5 cups of frozen blueberries is approximately 225 grams. Blueberries typically contain around 1 to 2 mg of anthocyanins per gram of fruit, so for 225 grams, the anthocyanin load would range from about 225 to 450 mg.

Summary:Elderberry juice: 510 to 850 mg of anthocyanins (depending on concentration).Frozen blueberries: 225 to 450 mg of anthocyanins.

Thus, elderberry juice likely has a higher anthocyanin content than frozen blueberries, but the exact amount depends on the concentration and specific variety of both.

I’ve heard that consuming raw uncooked elderberries can cause cyanide poisoning. Any truth to that?

If I ate or drank everything that’s good for me I’d be obese and on my way to sudden death.

Why not just state eat whatever you want but do so in moderation and exercise. That’s the key to a healthy life.

Growing up parents made elderberry jam, jelly, juice- it was absolutely, delicious. Every once in awhile you can find it in grocery stores (the jelly) and I’ll pick it up, but not a big jelly jam person anymore, but still like to bring back memories of the homemade jams- can still remember picking the berries which wasn’t easy, but totally worth it
