1) Leave the school. This is your best option. It may be the only good option.
2) Bring a weapon and cause serious, unprovoked damage on the person who has been bullying you. People will fear you.
3) DON’T go the the teaching staff. They will victimize you worse than the bully has been victimizing you, and they will make sure to protect the bully.

When I was in public school (seventh grade) I was beaten up by a bully constantly.

I had a plan.

I waited until the very last day of school.

I then approached the bully and started taunting him—calling him every name in the book.

He beat me to a bloody pulp.

When I got home I was a bloody mess.

I said to my parents “if you don’t send me to private school these bullies will kill me”.

My plan worked!

Retired public urban high school teacher here. Permit me to comment on your suggestions.

“Leave the school.”
I have suggested that on more than one occasion, for the reasons mentioned below. Things like group counseling, etc. rarely worked.

“Bring a weapon…”
That might have worked in the old days. But the bullying I saw in the city was always a group activity. The victim stands up to the bully. Then the bully gets ambushed on the bus, or on the way home.

“DON’T go the the teaching staff. ”
I can only speak to my own experience. I never once met a teacher who wasn’t angered by bullying. It made us sick. But the administrators were a different story.

I worked with maybe 100 different administrators over the course of my career. No more than a handful took bullying seriously. The rest were way more concerned with statistics. Gotta keep suspension rates low! That’s how they get bonuses and promotions.

So bullies are “counseled”, and sent right back to class. The administrators of course never call the police. That’s bad publicity for the district.

My advice to the parents of a bullied child: Immediately sent an email to the principal to start a paper trail. Contact the local police. Do NOT bother with the school police. Know however, that the bullies will probably retaliate.

That’s why your #1 is unfortunately so important.

And contact a lawyer. Sue the crap out of the school district. Too many parents just decide to let that go. They shouldn’t.

(Sorry for the length of this post. How bullies get away with so much - it’s a sore spot with me.)

Sorry. Huge error 1/3 the way down in my post #13. It should read:

Then the VICTIM gets ambushed on the bus, or on the way home.

I remember the bully who made me his victim in grade school. He would charge as fast as he could run right at me and slam his fist right into my gut. When I keeled over onto the ground, he would laugh hysterically.

On the same playground, my brother saw what this bully did to me. He went over to him and told him exactly what he saw. He started laughing. My brother and I both realized what he needed. After giving him the explanation of what we were going to do, he still laughed. We both beat that yahoo to a pulp. There was missing teeth and blood all over. He cried like a baby. When the teacher confronted me with what I had done, my brother came over and gave a detailed reason why it was necessary to give the beat down. The teacher realized that the bully deserved it. That was the last time the bully dared to provoke hell to pay.

The only thing a bully respects is power.
