MSNBC is facing some tough times, and even its top star, Rachel Maddow, isn't escaping the budget cuts. According to The Ankler, a showbiz newsletter, Maddow has signed a new five-year deal with the network, but her salary is taking a hit, dropping from $30 million to $25 million over that period.
An unnamed TV exec shared that despite the pay cut, MSNBC was eager to keep Maddow on the team:
"It's a challenging moment, and they had to hold onto her. No one else can replicate what she brings to the table. You can't just create a brand like hers overnight."
MSNBC might be having a tough time with ratings, especially with the recent presidential election causing some confusion (like how "Morning Joe" has taken a hit after Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski met with Donald Trump), but Maddow is still considered a major draw, with one executive even calling her "ratings Viagra."
Even though she’s facing a pay cut, Maddow is set to explore a bunch of creative projects alongside her usual show. She’s expected to produce documentaries and podcasts as part of her deal and will act as a "secret weapon" for other MSNBC shows when big news breaks.
Rachel Maddow remains a key asset to MSNBC, securing a new five-year deal despite a salary reduction from $30 million to $25 million. Even with the pay cut, the network is eager to retain her, recognizing her irreplaceable role and influence. Maddow’s unique brand continues to draw viewers, with one executive even calling her "ratings Viagra."
Alongside her regular show, Maddow will explore new creative ventures, producing documentaries and podcasts, and serving as a vital contributor during major news events. Her continued presence and creative expansion solidify her status as a central figure in the network's future.
Who else would hire her?
Well, she's "progressive," so I'm sure she gives most of that money to the poor anyway. Right?
LOL
( probably tried and they pushed her back out the door cuz they cant stomach her mental problems and dishonesty )
She is worth about one millionth of that.
That’s still too much but if the dummies who run MSNBS are dumb enough to pay for it then….
Butch Madcow is very, very butch.
They could save 25 million and replace her with Deputy Dawg reruns and improve ratings.
One of the major mysteries of the multiverse (3M) is how such losers such as Kamala and Maddow keep failing upwards despite revealing their ignorance (Kamala) or inexpert lying (mad cow). At least Maddow is now being paid only a few million times more than her worth rather than a billion.
” her salary is taking a hit, dropping from $30 million to $25 million over that period”
Dayum! No more Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese. Gonna have to switch to the store brand stuff.
$30 million?! That idiot was making $30 million?! On a network with a relative handful of viewers. That is incredible.
quote “You can’t just create a brand like hers overnight”
I create it quite often when I use the toilet.
MSNBC is doing the best it can to keep their #1 star even while their overall ratings are in free fall.
Fox News on the other hand jettisoned their best performing host (Tucker Carlson) over politics during a similar period of ratings decline.
“ They could save 25 million and replace her with Deputy Dawg reruns and improve ratings.”
We watch Hanna barbera a lot more than Rachel Maddow around her. So. Ya.
This should have been a great indication that they are STILL paying way too much.
And probably paying ALL of their “Talent” way too much.
If they can cut a person’s pay by 25% and they don’t leave.. Then that person has NO Options. And they are being paid way too much.
[Who else would hire her?]
The mayor of Los Angeles?
MSNBC is still making quite a bit of money and needs her to keep the core audience that buys those products to be able to pay her that much. Go after MSNBC’s advertisers if you want to see her gone.
My God she is so toxic, it’s astonishing that she has a following.
