Not even in office yet and he’s doing more than any President ever did when it comes to China.
Who’d rather have another Caribbean island?
Who says we can’t have both?
What if we offer you commonwealth status, optional citizenship, and a million bucks a head, $55 billion, that you can take as a check for each resident? Giving each resident a million dollars might swing a couple points in a referendum, and it would be a bargain for us
Just to get you on the record, you have no problem taking military action and invading Greenland if it deemed to be necessary for national security purposes?
“Who’d rather have another Caribbean island?”
Not me. My wife and I have visited 7 or 8 Carribbean islands. On the surface they look like paradise, but once you go inland, they are all ghettoes. The majority of the people live in tar paper, tin metal shacks with blue tarps for a roof. There are open sewers and trash filled drainages emptying into the sea. Even the main roads leading to the resorts are littered with trash and bums hanging out on the corners and not working. We have vowed not to return. And, the US State Department has warned they are not safe for travel.
I have to hand it to Trump - what other presidential contender would ever have had this kind of vision? If Trump somehow manages to make Greenland a territory or protectorate of the US, that’s far more than any of his predecessors during my lifetime ever accomplished.
This guy is looking for rent. He should be bypassed. A direct offer to the population is the way to go - $1m per resident.
im sure mssr Engle would rather have American focused might, than the conglomerate EU..
America with Democrats in charge is not much different than the EU.
True. And we can craft some deal that gives Denmark some rights percentage of whatever natural resources we mine, or better yet, give them a credit against their NATO dues or expenditures. It can’t be much.
Ah, I can see it now - Walt Disney World Frozen: Greenland!
Just amazing how quickly this has moved from “No way” to “Let’s talk”. This is Trump’s balliwick, not only building incredible projects but doing so against the odds, like with the Wollman Rink where he succeed where others had failed and saved the city millions in the process, or the new US Embassy in Jerusalem.
It’s now a negotiation and Trump is the master of The Deal.
This will be great fun to watch.
Let’s call it “The New Greenland Deal.”
What you say is spot on. We used to do bareboat cruises between Caribbean islands, including the USVI and BVI every couple of years but we did our last four years ago. The cruise bases were always lovely and clean and well kept with friendly staff, until our last cruise, when we actually felt a bit uneasy. Anchoring in the various cays and going ashore to the little towns and restaurants became a bit intimidating. I do not know why it’s changed there other than perhaps the local governments have neglected the people and the infrastructure. Following the hugely destructive hurricanes during 2017-2019 many homes and town were literally flattened and never really rebuilt so the people’s attitudes are understandable. Just my $.02. Of course not every place or it’s people are the same....
We have military bases in other countries like England and Germany and I’m sure we pay them handsomely in “rent”. Why not do the same thing in Greenland?
“Who’d rather have another Caribbean island?”
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Cuba makes sense. Perhaps the fact that Trump hasn’t mentioned it directly might make it his real goal.
Turning Cuba around economically would be a HUGE propaganda move aimed at the rest of Latin America.
It would also be a stepping stone to the real targets of controlling/occupying Venezuela and Nicaragua.
