It’s snow, not fire. It’s on a weekend here. We already have a layer on the ground from the last storm.

I am in a SW Arkansas town with about a foot of beautiful snow. We had mixed precipitation yesterday, then it got heavy after midnight with big puffy flakes. It looks like a Hallmark movie.

This area gets nasty frozen stuff every year, but a significant snow happens only every 7 years or so. That works out to once or twice during a childhood. While it shuts down normal life for a few days, the memories built today will last forever.

The street outside my window was filled with kids playing in the couple of inches that fell yesterday. They ran with open mouths to catch the big flakes, then threw snowballs with the first slushy fistfuls that would hold together. There were families of little ones playing together and roaming clusters of teenagers. For most, it was the first real snow day.

One guy got his four wheeler out and pulled an inflatable raft behind him like a ski boat. I could hear the engine and squeals of laughter as he went from street to street with fresh kids.

There is a steep hill a few blocks away that was closed off early yesterday. Someone slid in the ditch before the ground was covered. The city just put up barricades and closed it off. So there is a big steep hill with no traffic to safely play on. No one has sleds, but I bought a big swim ring on clearance just for this reason. It is going to be glorious!
