“I doubt very much that South Americans routinely call themselves ‘American’.”

Our Founding Fathers bequeathed that name to us. There has been a move for a time to apply it to everyone.

Just another attempt to rob Americans of their identity.

A school official told me that when Common Core was adopted, they had to change “American history” to “United States history.” Can’t have that “American” word around, it is an identity.

'Just another attempt to rob Americans of their identity.'

None of those attempts have ever worked. Everyone the world over knows what an American is.

The name “the United States of America” dates to the Declaration of Independence. But briefly the Continental Congress considered calling the country the United States of North America.
