The United States Congress has been branded a 'nursing home' after Nancy Pelosi was pictured using her walking frame to get around the floor.
Heading into the 2025 session, the average age of Congress members is 79 days older than last session, at 58.9 years old.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, suffered a fall last month in Europe and underwent hip replacement surgery.
She used a frame on Monday when she took part in a joint session of Congress to certify the results of the 2024 presidential election.
But the striking image of that moment has sparked questions about whether people in their 80s should still be working in such crucial roles.
'Congress really has become a nursing home,' one social media user wrote.
'Term limits. That's what America demands,' another added.
The criticism comes as 78-year-old Donald Trump prepares to return to the White House as the oldest person to be elected President.

Best post of the day!
I’m thinking more of the long term consequences of term limiting congress.
America has a history of trying to fix a problem, but creating 6 more. The answer is to just follow the Constitution, but that never seems to be an option.
I’m optimistic about Trump’s new administration, but it’s only 4 years long and the public’s attention span is about that of a tik tok video.
lol
A short tik tok video :)
I harbor the same thoughts...I hate to say that I think it will be a band aid (a big one no doubt) on the American wound.
The haters of America (many who live here) are not going to go away in a year or 10 years.
They will be waiting....and Is hope it does not end in an all out war for the country.
Are you even allowed to fly so soon after surgery?
