I never saw the movie but I think I still like the donkey better than any Leftist Hollywood actors / actresses.
It's likely that the donkey had more common sense.

There were many things I didn’t like about Shrek, including some gratuitous anti-Christian elements. But Eddie Murphy’s donkey was an irrepressible, exhuberent joy throughout the whole film. The entertainment value from Shrek and Donkey was 99% Donkey and 1% Shrek.
