I had a offer for a project management job in a startup company and I loved the company, the people, the area and the projects were right up my alley involving heat treating aerospace metals.I was amazed at the reception I was given at my visit to the plant with banners saying welcome to our company and a luncheon, One problem was during my visit to the plant was NPR was on through the entire plant, I was not enthralled with that atmosphere but I thought I could deal with it as I am fairly easy going . I was wrong. The entire crew was as leftist as I am on the right and I told my wife it was a Nogo as I could not relate with anyone there. I wish I stayed and perhaps could have changed things there but I had other offers and did not deal with it. I hate NPR and the fact we pay for it.But I live in Connecticut and it’s a fact of life around here.
My entire life I was friends with only one die hard leftist. She was Jewish and ended up dying of a fentanyl overdose.
There are a number of more liberal people in my extended family. Whenever social and political issues come up, they are respectful, and not coming on like gang busters about being liberal. When we discuss things, it’s like a panel discussion on shows such as Meet The Press. It’s a respectful discussion of politicians and issues.
But I know some liberal leftist types will be aggressive. I have not seen this aggression in my extended family.

Note how one’s Democrat acquaintances virtually never condemn abuses or excesses by liberals against conservatives (e.g., the effects of cancel culture, lawfare against political opponents, voter fraud, violence and mayhem by liberal allies, etc.). They have little to no respect for conservative views, much less showing any modicum of empathy. Your views don’t merit any consideration and they really don’t care a wit about you.

Peace in the family is a good thing. But I have to ask do they ever acknowledge and/or condemn the barrage of liberal lawlessness, abuses and excesses against conservatives? Things like cancel culture, voter fraud, lawfare, extreme liberal media bias, censorship, weaponization of federal agencies, etc.
I have no problem with someone having reasonably different political perspectives, and am glad to hear that you have respectful discussions about politics, but its hard to understand how liberals can so often dismiss any criticism about their destructive tactics.
Silence in the face of abuses is very telling about how one really feels. I worked around lots of liberals and one thing I learned was that being a liberal means never having to say you’re sorry. They never apologize and rarely ever acknowledge.
