Does he even write his own music? All I’ve heard from him are parodies. Yet the rock and roll hall of fame won’t induct real, talented musicians like Ted Nugent because he is a right-winger
yes he does.
If Ted’s not in, I respect him all the more. A real rebel. He certainly doesn’t need it.
He doesn’t write the music. He writes lyrics. I believe he is the most prolific song writer of our time. But he uses other people’s melodies.
Yes he does, but the fact you don’t know, shows how they go nowhere!
Sorry guys, I only think hit-makers should get in - so many no-names in there, fringe bands whose fame is due mostly to their few devotees hogging the internet, never mind not “R&R” of any kind that is in there.
That didn't stop Linda Ronstadt from being inducted. She's a cover artist with a great voice.
He has done original songs as well as what he calls style parodies, which are songs that are not direct parodies but are inspired by the style of a particular artist. “Dare to be Stupid” (if you ever heard it) is one of the more prominent style parodies, inspired by Devo.
Al writes his own music for some of the stuff. The parodies are only part of the catalog. Then there’s the polka medleys (which he at least has to transpose the music to accordion). And his full original songs.
Ted’s not in because he’s heavy metal. Wenner hates heavy metal, and prog rock, so those are the bands that get the shrift.
Read an extensive Atlantic article a while ago and the author impressed me with his discussion of Al’s “library” of research into and total documentation of every step of creating the parodies. Al may be weird, but he is intelligent, thorough and hard working.
He deserves whatever recognition he can get and would totally fit in the RRHOF.
