Our Progressive Calendar(Holidays)
American Thinker ^

The process began when celebration of Washington’s Birthday moved to the third Monday in February. Around the same time, many states dropped their February celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.

Local governments have paired or replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous People’s Day.

The most recent calendar change is the addition of Juneteenth

Anybody see a pattern here? We need a new calendar of holidays, one where everybody's ox is gored. It's been getting stupid for the last 50 years.

I've got my own set of ideas on how we should recognize these 3 day weekends. Wanna hear them?

Very much so! I still miss Washington’s Birthday Feb 22 and Lincoln’s Birthday Feb 12. Those will ALWAYS be the right days.

If everyone’s ox is gored everyone will be angry about theirs. The good news is that most of the ‘angrys’ will be leftists.

Too many of these are DEI instituted and DEI and now that it’s on the chopping block, this would be the coup de grace.

Eliminate the paid days off where some get paid and others do not.

None of it is accidental or coincidental. It is intentional for malignant purposes.

The “Juneteenth” one is simply stupid. I could see it if they had it as a state holiday in Texas. In Massachusetts, they have “Evacuation Day” which is the day the British pulled out of Boston because the cannons on Dorchester Heights looking down on the city compelled them to leave.

Perfectly appropriate as a state holiday for Massachusetts the way Juneteenth is perfectly appropriate for Texas.

But I wouldn’t expect any other state to have either of those as a day off.

Juneteenth was the one that got me. When’s it gonna stop? Trump should grab the bull by the horns and point out how these holidays divide people and do not bring them together.

Start by eliminating them all. Then close down the country between Christmas and New Year. Keep July 4 and Thanksgiving should move to Friday-3 days. Allow all the woke to take their days off UNPAID. If one wants to turn July 4 into a 4 day weekend let congress give the unpaid ok.

George Washington is honored in Hawaii. Appropriate?

“Indigenous People’s Day” and “Juneteenth” are not recognized at our household.

Fake holidays.

Don’t forget Robert E. Lee’s birthday and Confederate Memorial Day.

I’d go with two fixed national holidays (July 4 and Jan 1 - the second on the theory that folks will be too hung over to work productively, anyway), and then give folks a choice of 4 ‘affinity days’ - but you have to be in a group that celebrates that day - so Christians could have Christmas Day if they wanted it; Catholics and others that observe it could opt in to Good Friday; Union members, OB/GYNs and Midwives could have labor day. Honorably discharged veterans could have Veterans day, Blacks could have Martin Luther King Day, people who lost a relative of the first or second degree could opt for Memorial Day, ex-Presidents could have “President’s Day”, etc.

Folks would have to declare by December 1 of the previous year what 4 affinity days they would take the next year.

And, this should appease the liberals, this encourages diversity in hiring, as a diverse workforce would ensure that there is always someone available to cover.

PAR35-
Bingo!

Affinity days. That’s a nice concept. Still I think there’s something to be said for shutting down everything Dec. 26-31-four days extra. A good time to reflect and bring folks together. Still a lot of people will be working.

MLK day falls on Monday, January 19, in 2026.
Robert E. Lee’s birthday is January 19.

Everyone now has plenty of notice and shopping days to buy and mail out General Lee birthday greeting cards to family, friends and neighbors who display “in this house...” banners in their yards.

Affinity days was my late father’s idea. He (WWII and Korea vet) didn’t think anyone but veterans should get off veteran’s day which got him started on the whole concept.

As far as giving everyone the same week off, travel is already bad enough then and at Thanksgiving. That would just make things worse.

Forgot to add - only Calvinists could get Thanksgiving off.

When I retire (again) I might do that. As long as woke companies are paying me off, I probably shouldn’t.

But chocolate cities will be happy peaceful places if they get their own day, and own month, and Kwanzaa, and street names, and schools, and BLaM murals painted on their streets. People are flocking to the peace and prosperity of chocolate cities to live in harmony.
