“Could explain a few things. Maybe.”

I might be able to rig up the batteries to light up the vehicle, but if I went around town trying to buy high explosives, as a non-Muslim, I wouldn’t get very far before being arrested.

What high explosives? So far the only apparent “explosives” were commercial grade fireworks, a 5 gal. can of kerosene and a 1 gal. can of white gas. Unknown how much fuel was in either can. Both cans barely had any paint burned off of them and neither of them appeared to be ruptured.

I know in Ohio, you can buy a pretty impressive fireworks cache with very large mortars pretty easily. What I saw and what I’ve been hearing is he packed gas cans and fireworks in the bed

Big fireworks, not high explosives. Pre-New Years in Vegas...probably nobody would bat an eye. I knew a guy that said he used to sell fireworks to the Columbine killers in July. He’d go back to sell Oregon Christmas trees in December.

He didn’t put a whole lot of thought into it, just bought camp stove gas and fireworks...not TATP, TNT, C4 etc. Not even fertilizer and diesel.
Firework buys around New Years aren’t exactly unusual in some states.

Explosive materials are pretty much available in any sporting goods/hardware store. People buy them every day.

Whoever set up the “bomb” in this truck was not being serious about it. A Roman candle is not going to set much on fire.

You can go to any cabellas or bass pro shops and get binary explosives it’s not hard we live in a free country. We need to keep bad people out and have a functional investigation system to jail bad people who are citizens but lunatics or radicalized. Materials will always be available one way or the other. With freshmen university level chemistry one could make high brilliance materials from scratch. Without ever using controlled chemicals I won’t say how on a open forum but any one who has passed organic chemistry could do so.
