The girl being transported to Mexico had just finished medical treatment for a life-threatening illness at Shriners Children's Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dont we have US citizens that could be treated at Shriners Childrens Hospital...?

A private hospital supported by private donations.

Looks like all the hospitals are in the U.S., but the website states: "Caring for Children Around the World"

Shriners Hospital


A taxpayer supported hospital for Veterans.

VA Hospitals

(I imagine that there are a number of Filippino Navy vets in these hospitals.)
