Exactly right. I've personally seen cases where a person is (in a literal sense) fighting to survive, and can afford to either (1) pay the rent / mortgage, or (2) eat decently. These folks I see in my locale would gladly drive to the OKC area, where there are more opportunities for help -- but they either don't have a vehicle or can't afford gas.
It's always been the plight of the elderly and the families with young children that hurt my heart the most. I very much liked your reference to generous people, and am cooking up a plan in my head to figuratively "adopt" a few people and help them anonymously. Sort of like the Big Brothers / Big Sisters program that I recently mentioned to another Freeper.
A noble idea; as Rush Limbaugh said often, Americans are a generous people❗ Democrats have been chipping away at that foundation for a couple of generations with taxes and indoctrination. 😒
You have a good heart. God bless you.

We have a friend we have “adopted”. He lived in Texas, and was fighting with the social security offices there to get his SS. It took him over a year to even get an appointment to start the process and much longer to get any benefits......and not backdated.... (he was told he was in line behind all the illegals) He would have starved had we not sent money occasionally. These kinds of failures are the ones who make me so angry about the bureaucrats in our government.
