Without discussion of a “new” or “updated” mechanism for this melt, who’s to say that the melt volumes weren’t higher BEFORE the industrial revolution.
Like the hole in the Ozone over the South Pole*, this is equally likely to be attributable to the dynamics of the Erf.

* The Ozone hole wasn’t known until it was found and measured.
It has fluctuated ever since.
At what point in the past was it “closed” and what did that do the Erf?
