A Blossoming Romance

Ukraine and Syria’s new terror regime are enamored of each other.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister just visited Damascus to meet the leader of the new terrorist regime in charge, now that the U.S. has removed the $10 million bounty on his head. It turns out Ukraine had long been assisting the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) fighters with intelligence and drones, presumably paid for by us. We had also directly been sending aid to a terrorist network which over the years had variously been ascribed to al-Qaeda, Jabhat al-Nusra, ISIS, or ISIL.

Once HTS triumphed over Assad, the terror killings commenced. The Western press has ignored this because it conflicts with the narrative that Assad was the only mass murderer in that nation. HTS founder and leader Abu Mohammed al-Jawlani (aka Jolani) fought Americans long ago under the al-Qaeda leader, Abu Musab Zarqawi in Iraq.

Ukraine achieved its objective in Syria, of pinning down Russian assets working to maintain Assad in power. So it therefore no longer has any legitimate interests there. You would think. That the State Department sent our Ukraine proxy to Damascus tells us what could have been anticipated if Trump lost. The chaos planned for that part of the world must be substantial. As Trump recently declared, we have no interest in that quagmire, so we should exit.

After Assad’s fall, Ukraine shipped 500 tonnes of food aid to Syria. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister declared: “Ukraine will remain a linchpin to food security in Syria, even if our country is engaged in a war.” How much of the billions Biden keeps shipping to Ukraine will end up in Syria? Why does the State Department use Ukraine as a U.S. cutout? Because we can not overtly support a regime led by a man who fought Americans

Biden is sending as much aid to Ukraine as he can before Trump is sworn in, so we are still funding Syria’s terrorist regime too.

Amazing, but I suspect a great amount of money we send overseas is rerouted and is fungible.

The CIA uses that money to pay off corrupt politicians here in the US and to subvert governments worldwide without the necessity of government oversight and accountability.

Ah, see how that works? We wonder where the money went. US has a middleman that sends funds to the next globalist acqusition war using US taxpayer dollars behind our backs.

We are only finding this out becau....well you know why.

What a con.

Three key players are not mentioned in the article: Turkey, Russia, and Iran. When they are considered, a more accurate and less alarming picture emerges.

Turkey is the key architect of the take down of Assad and will now assume primary responsibility for the support and good conduct of the new government. This fits with Erdogan's neo-Ottoman ambitions for Turkey to control Syria as a regional power.

Russia has lost a key ally and valuable naval and air bases in Syria. This is a blow to Russian prestige and power in the region. That is cause for distress in Moscow and celebration in Ukraine and elsewhere, if one does not like Putin and his regime.

Even more so, Iran has lost a key ally in Assad and an essential supply route to Hezbollah. This helps Israel and the US because it increases the vulnerability of the Iranian regime.

None of this negates the criticism that HTS is a terrorist organization. The deeper reality though is that Islamic societies are always run by brutal thugs. Put them in suits and give them diplomatic recognition and a reliable source of cash and weapons to control a country and they are a government. Put the thugs in uniform and they can be made into an army and police. Out of uniform, the thugs become terrorists and gangsters.

In Islamic societies, there are not enough pacifists or democrats to make much of a difference. The choice is between different thugs and what to make of them in the circumstances for the sake of American national interests.

With the HTS in power as a government, they are in the open and can be bribed, threatened, or killed as need be, collectively and individually. That is why the US has aircraft carriers and long range bombers. With Trump in office, we will have them at the ready and the will to use them. Peace (of a sort) will ensue.

“This fits with Erdogan’s neo-Ottoman ambitions for Turkey to control Syria as a regional power.”

Erdogan hates Israel. Syria was blocking his land access to Israel. Look for him to take over the terrorists operating in Syria against Israel. Turkey will be a bigger problem for Israel than the Arabs and Iranians. Turks don’t cut and run like Arab armies.

Until Erdogan, Turkey was on relatively good terms with Israel based on compelling practical considerations and large contingents of nominal and secular Muslims. Plausibly, Turkey will return to that approach when Erdogan passes from the scene.

Already, Erdogan's Islamist movement seems to be losing popularity. The rising numbers of Kurds and other ethic minorities in Turkey are also eroding the political base for Erdogan's party and its neo-Ottoman Islamism and imperialism. As problematic as Turkey is for now, time seems to be against Erdogan.
