By Bob D'Angelo, Cox Media Group National Content Desk December 30, 2024 at 11:19 am EST Jimmy Carter grew up listening to gospel music while growing up in Plains, Georgia, but the future 39th president’s connection with rock and country artists while running for the Oval Office led to the moniker of “Rock ‘n’ Roll President.”
Carter, who died on Dec. 29 at the age of 100, counted Bob Dylan as a friend, The New York Times reported. The Allman Brothers endorsed Carter, who was the governor of Georgia but not well known outside the Peach State, in late 1975. Their endorsement, which came three months before the Iowa caucuses, connected with young voters, who were considered a crucial voting bloc for the upcoming 1976 Democratic primaries.

Now ask Uncle Ted
That last photo of him looked like he was rocked and rolled out the hospice chute. After he voted though.

This writer is not credible...............
Not this musician.
Oh to be unburdened by what has been.
Yea, I’m plagiarizing.
Wow, quite the story. Looks like he began the tradition of rock and pop concerts during the Presidential campaign, with so many rock, pop, and country stars supporting him.
Why do you say that? There is a newspaper article from 1975 quoted.
Those musicians didn’t make a bit of difference and should have stayed out of it. I don’t even want to know because I don’t want to have to decide whether I still like them. Carter was disappointing and the best thing I could say about him being president is that Jerry Brown was in the primary that year.
Carter was well known throughout The South as were the Allman Brothers.........
Willie Nelson tells a story about smoking a joint on the roof of the White House back during Jimmy’s time.
You are right.
Maybe it’s just because I am from Florida, was stationed in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina which all border Georgia. People from NYC might not have heard of Jimmah but we did. AFAIK, he was a good Governor, but not a very good POTUS.
I was on duty the night he was elected, and one of the guys came in from guard duty and asked who won the election.
Being from The South, I proudly announced that Jimmy Carter did.
I don’t remember where the guy was from, but he reacted like the world was coming to and end.
I was really puzzled.
I did not know that he would soon be proven correct............
Propagandists propelled the gushing.
Carter, really? I would have said Clinton was the “rock and roll president,” at least until he started talking about “My Friend Kenny G.”
