The reason Linux has not caught on with the masses is that there are too many distros. Confusing as hell!
If there was one or two well supported and easy to install versions, I’m sure it would get a lot wider play.
You left out the fact that Bill Gates spent decades coercing hardware manufacturers into not supporting it, and is chief architect of the many of the lies told about *NIX.
And OH BY THE WAY, the OS you claim hasn't caught on is THE MOST POPULAR OS IN THE WORLD.

So whatever it is that's confusing you, the rest of the world seems to find quite pleasing.
