BS.
Programmers don’t receive political indoctrination. That can be true of liberal arts, but the sciences are too competitive to waste time on it.
As to the supposed inferiority of American education, I found this interesting comment written by an Indian Mathematics PhD from the University of Ghent.
“Look at the number of Nobel Laureates (and other international awards, number of papers published etc etc) and the answer should be crystal clear.
“Indian High Schoolers and College kids are forced to memorize a lot more stuff, which ends up compromising their creativity. Getting AIR-1 etc does not mean someone was smart, it simply means someone can give the exam well (and when the competition is down to the last mark-chance ends up playing a huge role). They may have more factual knowledge, but can do far less original work (also their factual knowledge is in the wrong places, too much classical physics and alchemist chemistry, to say nothing of the despicable med entrance biology)
“We are light years behind, and until we develop a system that is not meant to cater to the average, we will remain that way. Higher Education in India was designed to supply clerks to the British, and sadly it remains that way. Even new Universities with better ideals were corrupted by the same mentality.
“If you define better to be- “more factual knowledge”, I’d say Indians are light years ahead up to a certain point, but for the top 500 folks in the country, say, US would either break even or beat us there (Compare performance in the International Science and Math Olympiads). And if I’m to look overall, no we are light years behind (since half, no 99.99% of Indian students are barely competent enough to work in a proper lab.)”

Um, colleges are required by the DOE to include such crap as “Women’s Studies” in the freshman year.
