I’ve noticed that people who are very hairy will often keep a strong body scent, whether they shower or not.
That scent is not necessarily foul, but it can be noticable
.
Others may have skin that is naturally oily. They can be hairy or not at all hairy. They have their own natural scent. I’ve read that most Americans tend to over-wash, over-deodorize their skin, because of our culture.
No one wants to be ‘the bringer of Bad Smells ‘ in a public setting. We have all seen those commercials.

Same thing goes with the “Capital Crime” of halitosis.
I just finished a Western Novel by Robert Parker named Appaloosa. In it, no body talks about brushing their teeth even once. It was the way most lived until very recently.

There was a recent movie about body odor.

Trimethylaminuria (TMAU), also known as fish odor syndrome, is a rare metabolic disorder that causes the compound trimethylamine to be released in a person’s sweat, urine and breath, giving off a strong fishy odor.
