Vestigial structures like this are considered remnants of evolution, demonstrating that they once served a greater purpose and, while now reduced, there’s not been evolutionary pressure to lose the trait entirely.

This all sounds very definite in the case of an animal they admit to knowing very little about.

Why do they use the term ‘Vestigial’?

That makes it sound like the teeth are slowly going away.

What if it’s the other way around, and they are slowly coming in?...........😉
