I don't know how they ever convinced people to pay for property taxes...When the greedy in government first started property taxes I honestly don't know who they got anyone go go along with it.
It went something like this, "Hey, we here in government are going to start charging you to live in the home you own. Yes yes, we know you OWN it, but we want our cut. So pay up sucker or we'll seize your home and throw you in the street. You only think you owned your home sucker. But the ugly truth is, we in government own your home. Pay up stupid or else!"

As we both know, once “property taxes” are instituted, government owns your property and failure to pay your tax, AKA rent, results in its confiscation.
In other words, property taxes are the fulfillment of the first plank of the Communist Manifesto.
It’s a mystery how our ancestors failed to hang the cretins when it was first attempted. Nowadays normalcy bias seems to keep people tolerating outrageous treatment by government bureaucrats or ‘feeling’ it’s just fine.
4% local sales tax,
the 6% state tax,
the property tax,
the personal property tax,
the excise tax on cars,
the car tag tax,
the toll road taxes,
the fuel taxes,
the state income tax etc. Not to mention the whole gamut of federal taxes

The king would grant land to vassals, who in turn would owe the king money, or grain, or soldiers.
