It doesn’t appear to be in this case, but sometimes a player has an existing injury, and cant play, even without going in. An the 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who played in his first game last night since the Super Bowl, was injured walking onto the field in the Super Bowl.

But wouldn’t it have made more sense for him to take the coach aside and tell him that he can’t play, ask to be taken out of the game, etc? And spend the rest of the game on the bench? It seems he just decided to walk off the field and say “That’s it. I’m done with football.”

I didn’t know that. Poor guy — injured just WALKING onto the field!?
