It's the end of an era: Taylor Swift's 'Eras Tour' comes to a close in Vancouver

As Taylor Swift sings in her famed fan anthem “Long Live,” “Remember this moment.”

For her loyal fans, there have been many of those moments since the "Eras Tour" kicked off in March 2023.

Sunday night’s show was the last of that marathon tour, which has spanned nearly two years, five continents, 50 cities and a remarkable 149 shows — each of which has featured Swift singing, dancing and glittering for more than three hours.

Swift said in June that the tour, which at the time seemed to be everlasting, would conclude in Vancouver in December.

The tour, which featured songs from Swift’s 11 albums, or “eras,” was marked by friendship bracelets, a revolt against Ticketmaster, a record-setting concert film and booming economies in nearly every city she touched.

It also featured a blossoming romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who appeared onstage in London and was mentioned in Swift’s “Karma” multiple times on the tour.

Sisters Amanda and Sarah Cowley, both University of Victoria students, described the show as “unreal” and “incredible.”

“It’s insane the amount of tourism this brings, ’cause this is our home city. ... I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” Sarah Cowley said.

Amanda Cowley said it’s “crazy” to be at the show as “both a fan and just to witness this.”

“It’s gonna be historic one day to say that I went to the Eras Tour,” she said.

Her songs all sound alike to me .... not that I make a point to listen ... they pop up occasionally on the radio.

CD? Swift fans probably don't know what that is.

Possibly they are familiar with their parents music. Many of us still have CD racks covered in dust we don't use

I have file boxes full of CD’s. They never re-emerged from the boxes after my last move. With Bluetooth and streaming music there really is no need for Gen Z. My stereo rack system is kind of ornamental now.

Even for the music I already have, I just use You Tube, it’s just so easy to type in the song.

My hearing isn’t all that great, so I don’t care about audio quality anymore.

My older one has a Bluetooth receiver plugged in to it.

Yes. And the flexibility to create playlists — to which a lot of streaming services will add music for your consideration. Which is an inexpensive way to explore new music & artists.

All that lip syncing must have tired her out

Hundreds of dollars to watch some woman dress up and lip sync, PT Barnum would have loved her fans.

Oh how cute. The little girls in the picture show off their friendship bracelets with “SLUT” and “WHORE” on them.

I was waiting for her to announce her concert dates in Minot, North Dakota so I could see her.....

Years (and years) ago when the band RUSH started doing videos for MTV they did the lip-sync thing for the early videos. It didn’t take them long to realize that was stupid. Instead would record live somewhere and then give that to MTV.

In before the FR posters who reliably assure us that all Beatles music is garbage.

Let's put it this way...I'd rather listen to Taylor Swift than the Beatles any day of the year. I can't stand the garbage the Beatles put out.

While I could have taken time off work to visit Vancouver and see Taylor Swift, I had more pressing things to do. Things like shaving, or washing my hair. Attending a Taylor Swift concert was item 2,659,462,105 (or so) on my bucket list of things to do before I die.

It did however, beat out shaking hands with Crime Minister Justin(e) Castreau, by an order of magnitude.

Attending a 3-hour Taylor Swift show isn’t on my “before I die” list, it’s on my “I’d rather die” list.

75 shows per year is not a lot, compared to how many shows big-time artists did each year on tour in the 70’s and 80’s.
