PALM BEACH, FL — Inside sources said President-elect Donald Trump drew a hard line in the sand during a dinner meeting last week with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as witnesses reported overhearing Trump telling Trudeau that the U.S. would refrain from annexing Canada if they would admit that their "bacon" is just weird, gross ham.
The offer came during a tense trade tariff discussion while Trudeau visited Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort home last week, with Trump offering a compromise in which the U.S. would avoid adding Canada as its 51st state if Trudeau would issue a public statement revealing the true nature of Canadian bacon.
"I'll cut you a deal, Little Fidel," Trump was reportedly overheard saying. "It would be very easy for us to just absorb Canada. The maple syrup is wonderful. Everyone loves it. And all of the trees. So many trees. We could do very well with Canada, better than anyone has ever done, believe me. But I'm willing to hold off on annexing you if you're willing to drop this talk about Canadian ‘bacon.' It's not bacon, Fidel. Never has been. It's ridiculous. Nothing like bacon at all. It's fake news."
Sources present at the dinner said Trudeau was uneasy with the proposition. "He definitely seemed hesitant," one witness said. "He didn't want to have his country annexed by the U.S., but you could tell he wasn't willing to blow the lid on the Canadian bacon charade."
At publishing time, negotiations between Trump and Trudeau had reportedly hit additional snags after Trump notified Trudeau that poutine was an unacceptable way to eat french fries.

We’ll need to send them all off to reeducation camps, where they can learn inches, feet, yards, miles, pounds, ounces (both kinds), cups, quarts, gallons (US), Fahrenheit, and recognize that a proper Flag has more than two colors ...
At least they already drive on the right side of the road.
And how to pronounce “Schedule” correctly!
Oh, yeah: Sometimes we use fractional inches. Sometimes we use decimal inches. And our heads don’t explode.
Anyway I think the vast majority of Canadians, Anglophone, Francophone or other, are not in favor of becoming part of the US. Their identity is premised on their being better than Americans, so they wouldn't want equality.
They’re not even a real country anyway.
pork loin, delicious. the Canadian have that other Rond shoe leather stuff. I’ve me pea meal bacon or belly bacon, yum, they can keep the round shoe leather stuff.
Hilarious!
There would have to be a required Good Stiff, Punch-In-The-Nose Rule, for any Canuck that displays any arrogance or hubris to any Natural Born American.
Canadian qualification for any menial job in the real US is probably certain.
The IRS would probably have to levy a penalty for thick skulls, however the rest of the tax code would probably apply.
Well Played, Tolerance!
We remove 50% of them if Quebec becomes independent. That leaves us with Ontario. Alberta is pretty conservative. Plus we get their oil resources. So it's a fair trade if we take them in. American liberals will be okay with it because Ontario will be coming in the union (similar to the pre-Civil War era where we accepted one slave state and one free state in the Union.)
Well Played, Larry!
I would take Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, though.
I'll take that deal.
Agreed!
They were doing well until Trudeau took over 10 years ago.
Biden is a crappy President. But there's a limit to what he can do.
Trudeau is pretty much a dictator in Canada.
And there’s no “u” in color.
I’m Canadian but have no patriotic pride in Canadian “bacon”. I hope President Trump stands firm on this demand.
Next he’ll be promising Macron no more wedgies if the French just learn how to make French toast.
You have my deepest condolences, ... as do a number of my relatives, particularly those in Quebec.
