In some languages “great” is the same as “fat.” Amenhotep the Corpulent is more like it.
And why is it “great” rulers give so little attention to the quality of their successors? How great was A3 that he didn’t prevent A4? (Akhenaton, a dynasty wrecker if ever there was one.)

Amenhotep III probably wasn’t the one who did the empire building in Egypt. He inherited an empire and left it to the care of the powerful military of the time, and a capable team of administrators. Credit is also due his ancestors, especially Ahmose I.

Ancient Egyptians were often fat.

The led the world in growing wheat. They grew so much of the rest of the Mediterranean was dependent on Egypt for their food.

Wheat made up the bulk of their diet. I've heard ancient Egyptians described as practically being vegetarians they consumed so much wheat.

And what do we know about high-carb diets? They cause you to store fat. Round faces, man boobs, & big bellies are symptomatic of high carb diets.

This is a statue of the architect of the Great Pyramid. He's fat. And he's fat in a way that's typical of a high-carb diet. The fact that they didn't hide the man-boobs would indicate this was at least a common attribute for Egyptian men.
