Israel is an outcropping of Western culture.
Generally it needs to be understood that there is a fundamental problem with Islam (which this article points out specifically regarding kidnapping and slavery). Not necessarily every Muslim is a problem, but the religion itself has issues.
These issues can be seen in their doctrine/scripture itself where in the Quaran speaks of striking people at the neck, deceiving them, enslaving them, levying extra taxes. Then there is the historical perspective where you see a consistent oppression of all those that are non-Muslims in nations/societies that become Islamic. Even the most liberal of Islamic societies as in Egypt and Turkey are essentially oppressive for those that are non-Muslims and live there, example Coptic Christians. There is the verbiage by their leaders, senior leaders, many of them, over many years who rationalize these behaviors. Bottom line is that this religion does not play well with anyone else because of their value system which using today's pop culture language would be called intolerant and exclusive.
Speaking of playing well with others, isn't it telling that there are examples of Jew, Christian, Hindu, Shinto, Bahia, Zoroastrian, Buddhist, living and working together peacefully around the world, but anywhere Muslims are injected with anyone else, you end up with problems? In fact, it does not matter if it's a more conservative or liberal society, in Africa, Asia, Europe or North America, you end up with problems. What should that tell us?
Especially Christians and Western society should be concerned. Why? Because we have philosophical ideas such as from the Enlightenment era which largely shape our society to this day and go against Islamic teachings. In Islamic society the justice system is not secular, Sharia is Islamic law. There is no freedom of speech, true freedom of religion, free expression of ones sexuality, feminism, pork, beer, spirits, nudity, porn, are all out of scope. In Western culture, what is the role of a Mufti, Imam, an supreme Islamic counsel? Western culture fundamentally threatens the power structures of Islamic society. Even the most basic concept of democracy only works as long as the outcomes are in step with Islamic teachings and values and do not threaten these power structures.
How do you accommodate Islam with western culture/society? You can't.
At a micro level I can find you many good Muslims: nice people, hard working, honorable. But at a macro level, this religion has a value system that is incompatible with nearly anyone else and it is naive to think that you're going to have large numbers of Muslims and Christians living together in harmony and peace for any amount of time. Conflict is pre-rogrammed and those policy makers that are responsible for bringing large numbers of these people to the West...
IMHO, what you are seeing today in Israel is the general acceptance of thought (at least for those in positions of power), that there will never be a lasting peace with the Palestinians. There can be peace with their national neighbors, even cooperation, since there are defined boundaries, a physical separation. But this idea of Arab and Jew living together in peace in and around (Gaza/West bank) Israel which still existed in the era of Rabin has ended.
Which brings us to today. Once you accept this new reality that a lasting peace will (((never))) be attainable or sustainable, and you love your country and your people who you put before all others (nationalist, not meant as a pejorative, I'm an American nationalist), you begin to take the sort of actions Netanyahu is.
That is the best outline of the problems we Westerners have with Islam, which I‘ve ever read👍🏻
