Yes, I remember the scene. It’s one of the first things which came to mind when I read the article.

Yes, I’m sure for many it was the first time they ever heard of Kimchi.

Back when I ate in Oriental (I’m not saying “Asian”!) restaurants, they put a bowl of kimchi on the table when you sat down. I liked it, but never have gone looking for it.

I read your profile. Just to encourage you, there ARE ultra conservatives in your area. My cousin and her family are in Cohoes and are super MAGA. They work in Albany. So, they’re there; you just have to find them.

I have purchased it twice and it immediately went into the trash. The lids blew off each time. Thought it was rotten. Is it supposed to do that??

Heating it would kill off the bio buggies, wouldn’t it?

Cold. You could warm it up as high as body temperature if you wanted. Any warmer it would kill it.Should have read a couple posts down to find the answer. Cooking with it kills it.

They eat it straight, but they also cook it into other dishes.

You can get the same benefit from naturally fermented sour kraut.
And you don’t get the fish sauce and garlic.

It can but it has to be refrigerated. I’ve only found one good source. It was a lady from China who worked in Dining but she no longer sells it. The biggest issue is the use of large chunks of cabbage. I have to trim it when I get it.

Have these people ever heard of the Cabbage Soup Diet? After a couple of bowls, I guarantee it will totally flush out your bowels!

My ex-wife would have us “go on this Diet” a couple times a year even though she was well aware of the danger!

Sadly, yes. Korean youth have embraced western junk food. Obesity and diabetes are on the rise.

When my wife and I were stationed in Korea, a Kimchi refrigerator was part of every condo we looked at. Pro tip: It was good for storing beer as well.

“ From what I’ve been reading lately, any fermented food is good for gut health.”
How do you tell the difference between fermented and spoiled or rotten?
