Thanks for the detailed info.
Thank you for inserting those words. Canada’s Bill C-63 states that, if the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal confirms that someone engaged in a hate speech violation, defendants can face fines of up to $50,000, and be made to pay up to $20,000 to complainants. The process financially incentivizes complaints at essentially zero cost to them, and covers statements made even prior to enactment of the Bill. I read it and completely understand that something I say or write online can get me into a great deal of trouble if someone is offended by my words, even words 10 years old or more. The process becomes the punishment even if the case does not proceed past an investigation. It amounts to forcing us to self-censor and is one of the major reasons I want to leave Canada.
It scared the bejeezus out of me, but NO ONE in the crowd here even glanced up! Situational awareness, people!

It’s a girl thing, ponygirl. We’re trained from very young that our safety depends on being situationally aware. I was taught to never leave a shopping mall towards closing/after dark without a security guard nearby or other people around who didn’t look sketchy themselves. Even in full light, I don’t walk alone without occasionally looking behind me in case someone is trying to sneak up on me. As a 16 year-old walking home from a babysitting job (OMG!! Why did I even have to do this?), I’d jump into the ditch and lie low until an approaching car passed. I have a couple of funny stories about that manoeuvre involving both critters and water. I could list 20 things girls/women have to do that boys/men don’t have to, and most women here know what they are. They all amount to just being situationally aware and the habit persists.
3:15 prayer time coming up.
Say a prayer for our nation

We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help

In light of yesterday’s quasi-religious comments, including the use of the word “heathens”:
1. I have two ancestors who were burned at the stake for being the “wrong” religion, one in Massachusetts Colony, and one in England.
2. Every man, conducting himself as a good citizen, and being accountable to God alone for his religious opinions, ought to be protected in worshipping the Deity according to the dictates of his own conscience.

You understand perfectly, and that was the case ... years ago. The Turd has almost doubled the annual number of immigrants allowed into Canada since covid (almost 500,000 a year now). He also introduced a hiring incentive that refunds 50% of our payroll for every “refugee” we hire. I’ve resisted this incentive, but it makes me considerably less profitable than my industry peers. I’m also aware that some businesses are abusing the incentive that comes with a 20 hour work week limit. So the abusers double the refugee’s pay and only record that they worked 20 hours, while they’re actually working 40 hours. Their pay records show 20 hours at $34.40 per hour instead of 40 hours at the minimum wage of $17.20, and they get $344 per week back from the Turd for each refugee worker. I don’t know if the government’s new immigration policies have allowed for the entry of more skilled immigrants as well.
One thing about living in a small town is that the people who’ve always lived here don’t like the demographics of my competitors and have told me so, so I have loyal customers. Their biggest complaint is “Why aren’t our kids good enough to be hired by these businesses?” I have no trouble hiring since local kids all want to work at my business, but it’s costly for me in a few ways. Reason #188 to retire 😉
Borough
- administrative division in various countries
A borough is an administrative division in various English-speaking countries. In principle, the term borough designates a self-governing walled town, although in practice, official use of the term varies widely.
dale
- A vale
Specifically, a space of level or gently sloping or undulating ground between hills of no great height, with a stream flowing through it.
For achival purposes.
So, your inclusion of the gender specific “men” might have offended some ‘manual transmission’ psychotic?

HMS Dreadnought was a Royal Navy battleship, the design of which revolutionized naval power. The ship's entry into service in 1906 represented such an advance in naval technology that her name came to be associated with an entire generation of battleships, the dreadnoughts, as well as the class of ships named after her.
Ironically for a vessel designed to engage enemy battleships, her only significant action was the ramming and sinking of German submarine SM U-29, skippered by K/Lt Otto Weddigen (of SM U-9 fame), in the Pentland Firth on 18 March 1915. U-29 had broken the surface immediately ahead of Dreadnought after firing a torpedo at Neptune, and Dreadnought cut the submarine in two after a short chase. She almost collided with Temeraire who was also attempting to ram the submarine. Dreadnought thus became the only battleship ever to purposefully sink an enemy submarine.
More importantly, the launching of HMS Dreadnought obsoleted all battleships that came before her such that they became known as "pre-Dreadnoughts". Thank God she wasn't named HMS Lizard after the Battle of the Lizard (21 October 1707), later an Acheron-class destroyer, or HMS Petunia, later a Flower-class corvette.
USS Texas (BB-35) is the only remaining Dreadnought.

” The more I dug into @GretaThunberg’s story, the more I realized that something stinks here. It’s no COINCIDENCE that her first appearance was on August 20, 2018, with a sit-in protest in front of the Swedish Parliament, followed COINCIDENTALLY four days later by the release of a book she co-authored with her mother.
But that’s not all - the PR machine for her was already in full swing on August 20, thanks to a man named Ingmar Rentzhog, who financed and drove the campaign through his company, @WeDontHaveTime. And guess what? Rentzhog is also COINCIDENTALLY the chairman of the think tank “Global Challenge” (@ChallengesFnd), which is now COINCIDENTALLY fully financed by a billionaire named Kristine Person, a member of the Swedish Social Democratic Workers’ Party and former minister in the government under Stefan Löfven.
And if that’s not enough, Rentzhog purely COINCIDENTALLY happened to walk by the Swedish Parliament on August 20 and encounter Greta during her sit-in protest, taking a photograph of her. But wait, there’s more - Rentzhog and Gretas mother had already met before at a climate conference on May 4, 2018, which is COINCIDENTALLY the exact date when Rentzhog became CEO of the aforementioned think tank.
And here’s something interesting - both Kristine Person and Stefan Löfven happen to be members of Klaus Schwab’s @WEF. It’s amazing how all these connections seem to come full circle, isn’t it?
It’s clear to me that something fishy is going on behind the scenes here. These people are manipulating the public and abusing their power for their own political gain. We need to be aware of their tactics and warn everybody we know about the Great Reset and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

It looks like a nice wide, stable platform. Ilke a tri-hull versus a deep-V. Can you tell that my boating experience consists of small lakes and a little bit of Lake Erie (where the deep V is a much better choice than the tri-hull due to bigger waves)?
State of the art at the time, but I’m sure it has its downfalls. Might require me to read up on Dreadnought designs.

PS: Use of the word “heathens” to describe people of other faiths reminds me of the Muslim use of the word “kaffir’ to mean the same thing.
Remember how the whole Uke thing got started? Mumbles said that he wouldn’t be concerned if Ivan made a “minor incursion’ in Ukeland? I hope Eleven doesn’t see the same opportunity in Taiwan. The next three weeks are a really good time for the Taiwans to be on their toes, defending their air/sea defense zone? I could see a nosy chicom getting smoked for testing the system.

Trump says he supports immigrants on H-1B visas amid tech, MAGA debate on the program: report
“I’ve always liked the visas,” Trump told the New York Post. “I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program.”
President-elect Donald Trump said Saturday that he supports visas for highly skilled immigrants amid the ongoing debate about the H-1B program among MAGA supporters.
“I’ve always liked the visas,” Trump told the New York Post. “I have always been in favor of the visas. That’s why we have them.” He referred to the program as “great.”
“I have many H-1B visas on my properties,” Trump told the outlet. “I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program.”
Trump has restricted foreign worker visas in the past. Senior Trump adviser Stephen Miller has been a big advocate for restrictive immigration, as well as restrictions on H-1B visas.
Miller had influence on a bill that would have imposed major restrictions on the visas such as requiring applicants to work abroad for at least 10 years, according to The Times of India, and for them to receive a high minimum salary of over $100,000 a year when granted such visas.
The conversation heated up when former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy posted Thursday that the main reason tech companies hire foreign-born and first-generation engineers over “native” Americans is due to an American educational culture that promotes mediocrity instead of striving for excellence.
Elon Musk, co-head along with Ramaswamy of DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, posted on social media platform X Friday night, that “The reason I’m in America along with so many critical people who built SpaceX, Tesla and hundreds of other companies that made America strong is because of H1B.”
“I will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend,” he added.
On the other side of the debate within MAGA world was former Trump strategist Steve Bannon and others in his circle who argue that many of the people who come to U.S. companies via the H-1B visas are not high-skilled workers superior to Americans with similar educations, but rather are brought here because they are significantly cheaper for the companies.
Well God Himself uses the word: Psalm 2:1-4 King James Version 2 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
The Hebrew is
למה רגשו גוים
Lamah ragshu goyim
“Why do nations ‘rage’?”
In Biblical Hebrew, ‘goyim’ is not a pejorative. It just means nation. It’s a stretch to translate that as ‘heathen’.
It sounds like the H-1B program might serve a useful purpose but is being abused by companies who don’t want to pay Americans a fair wage. As with all programs open to abuse, maybe it would serve the country best if authorities went after the abusers of the program, rather than scrap the program entirely?
