Syrian rebels say “today is the day, no mercy for these [Assad regime] criminals”

******** These Syrian rebel forces are moving into Aleppo and have already freed ISIS members from prisons there. Bashar Assad is in Moscow w Putin, and might not return to Syria. These Sunni forces are backed by Turkey. So this is Sunni Turkey versus Shiite Iran and Putins Russia. Israel has destroyed Hezbollah. It turns out that Hezbollah was a major support for the Assad regime.
Executive summary -- This is another Shiite vs Sunni war. Internecine wars that have been going on since 661 AD.
It looks to me like this is very much an “action of opportunity”, and we do know Israel hit both Hezbollah’ sites in Syria as well as Syrian Army sites. With the ceasefire at least initially holding, the rebels’ enemies in Syria are pretty much at their low point. So, the rebels reason, “move now”, before Hezbollah, Iran, and Assad recover, and before a potential ceasefire in Ukraine frees up Russian assets.
Heh, sort of like the Iran-Iraq war. Who was it that said: “Let’s hope both sides lose.”

And all because Israel, decimating Hezbollah, gave rebels an opening. Let's hope they get rid of Assad / Russia / Iran throughout Syria. Some here are biccching that our CIA is helping them. Don’t forget when the rebels turn into Al Qaida as well. It’s like Deja Vu all over again. Remember McCain pictured with all these “friendly rebels” and years later they were the terrorist leaders of different factions of Al Qaida or ISIS.

Since then, Armenians lost the Nagorno Karabagh war and now Assad is going down.
Putin army is spread too thin and cannot support all his clients.
As said below, the mujahedeen turned into Al Qaeda, Iraq turned into a hell hole, Libya fell to terrorism. Why would this time be different?

Fallout from Israels war vs Hezbollah. Call it collateral damage. A large proportion of Syrian forces were Lebanese Hezbollah. It seems that after the Israeli ceasefire all the Hezbollah people fled for home.
I doubt the Syrian war is over, its just that the regime is now very short of soldiers to hold all its territory.

Are you rooting for the Russians here? Same as in Ukraine? Those guided bombs look like desperation. Before the Putin forces get run out of town these ISIS clones. Out of Syria along with the Iranians.

The rebels are a rather wide assortment of groups. Some have shot at each other quite substantially in the past. IF the ISIS types are basically commanding the operation, that’s a worry, as we know how fast they can gain momentum over quite large areas and populations.
A good question is whether or not Russia wants to make a major effort here? If the rebels get well dug in before Russia can mount a large operation, said operation could be another long and costly operation.
