I think that the Democratic party was founded by the families of Tory plantation owners who refused to leave when our Revolution ended because they didn’t want to give up their property.

Threatened to go back to Britain unless they got that 3/5th person thing. But that’s a piece of history that’s not mentioned anymore. The study of the writings and debates on the forming and passing of our Constitution should be taught in our public schools.

The 3/5ths clause was a compromise on how to tie the House to a state’s congressional district population. The South had less population then the North. The South felt it would be politically overwhelmed if they weren’t given some sort of population crutch. The 3/5ths clause is that crutch.
