Leon Czolgosz didn’t stand a chance.
Emma Goldman was a feminist, anarchist, and activist.
The president turned down the idea of an open convertible as too dangerous.
I was preparing to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of McKinley on 9/14/1901, but then a major current event occurred three days before my commemoration, so I did not.
If I were a tinfoil guy, I would speculate that Leon was motivated to assassinate McKinley by progressives who wanted to see Teddy Roosevelt in the White House rather than the man the rich elites had chosen. Very unlikely, but Czolgosz’s act had very much unintended consequences.
P.S. With a name like Czolgosz, we can be sure he wasn’t a not-z, maybe a two-z who was a doozy.
The party of death has many fellow travelers, all on the left.
My great uncle, or great-great uncle, was involved in the telegraph system then, just south of Buffalo. He was one of the first people who knew about this, quite a while before it was announced to the public.
He was tried, convicted and executed within 45 days of the assasination. Amazing compared to how long it would take today.

Emma Goldman, the alleged writer of the letter, died in 1940 and was by all accounts a Jewish anarchist.
According to historical accounts Goldman was born in a Jewish ghetto in 1869. In 1892, together with Alexander Berkman, she planned the assassination of Henry Clay Finch, who suppressed strikes in the Homestead Pennsylvania factory with armed guards. Goldman and Beckman believed that by killing a tyrant, a representative of a cruel system, the consciousness of the people would be aroused.
Anarchism is defined by Merriam-Webster’s as a “political theory holding all forms of governmental authority to be unnecessary and undesirable and advocating a society based on voluntary cooperation and free association of individuals and groups.”
I wish I could remember the documentary about his assassination. His killer was some kook who wanted a job. It was before real security for presidents. And there were some guys that invented the first metal detectors that found the bullet in his gut but “doctors” at the time didn’t believe such sorcery and dug around on the wrong side of his abdomen basically killing him more that the bullet did.
