Gladiator II

Posted on 11/24/2024 10:16:14 AM PST by Mean Daddy

Wife and I love movies so we got our tickets for Gladiator II last night. Got there about 5:45 for a 6:00 showing and no one was there so I had to double check time/theater etc. Handful of people showed up, but it has to been one of the worst movies I've ever seen and were big Denzel Washington fans.

One little nugget, they flooded the coliseum and had a battle between two boats of gladiators with the coliseum teeming in sharks. The next day, the coliseum floor was bone dry.

Old Crowe sadly way past his gladiatorial prime.

Excellent - must go with 1959 production.

Didn't realize the Circus Maximus held over 3X attendees more than the Coliseum. Would have been something to attend.

Back in the day, the real Roman Coliseum actually did stage naval battles.

How often, or how many, I do not know.

My 65” is plenty and I can stop it when nature calls.

I would like to see Dune II but I’m not paying for it

"62 and enjoy the movie experience."

Is it the kids talking at full volume in the front row that you prefer, or the uncertainty of wondering what made the floor so sticky?

Or was it the unplanned bathroom trip in middle of the best scene?

I guess I'm just a home body. :)

I went to see “Raiders of the Lost Ark” in a theater this summer. Knew the plot, obviously - but it was fun watching it on the big screen! Others must have thought the same because the theater was full...

Watched Lawrence of Arabia in a theater a few years back. LONG movie but one that was meant to be seen on a BIG screen!

"It’s actually a sort of knockoff of some dubbed gladiator sword-and-sandal quickie from the early 1960s."

Your thinking of "The Fall of the Roman Empire". Not a bad little flick (it has SophiaL!)

Since this is about gladiators and you mentioned Amazon prime, find the documentary on Caligula.......only word that comes to mind is DEPRAVED.

This is a factual account from many university of Rome and Cambridge scholars.

That guy was completely unhinged.

Acting was good.
Action and scenes good.
Scripts were horrible.
Story was horrible.

Meh. Disappointed.

Same goes for Joker 2.

It’s a movie highlighting Lady GagGag with some Joker shit mixed in.

Recently I really enjoyed watching the Charles Bronson movie “You Can’t Win em All” on YouTube. I had never heard of this one until I stumbled on it earlier this year.

Thanks! I’d been amusing myself reading the descriptions of a bunch of b-movies, this will save time. :^)

Twisters and The Fall Guy were both good flicks this summer. I guess both are not in theaters now. The theater is different. I see every worthwhile movie and have made some recent mistakes

This one I am not interested in. There’s nothing out now

Stay at home and watch real movies. Everything out now is green screen cartoons.

Real film footage (silent), the soldiers where ever possible were given voice through the expert lip readers and overdubbing of the conversation from the soldiers. That plus colorization that was excellent and it was like one was there in 1914. Truly remarkable— the accents from different parts of the old Britain (Hampshiremen,Geordies, Irish, the lot).

This was a work of pure devotion and love by Peter Jackson. Recommend it to all on FR. The War to End all Wars so it was said— but the stupid French and Pres. Wilson’s idiotic League of Nations made sure the Germans would come back- and they did with a little Bohemian corporal lunatic named Hitler. Only in Germany- and the Nazis finally got what they wanted a German controlled European Union of Socialist morons== still sucking money out of the US’s pockets to support their stupid crap. Not paying their way none of them— except.... Finland who paid back every dollar owed the US. A grateful remembering country esp. vs. the Russians.
