As a guide dog handler of 25 and a half years, I’ve had hundreds of experiences of being refused service - but online threats and increasing hostility towards disabled people mean I’m giving up on asking publicly for equality and respect.
The last straw came about a week ago. I was already reeling from a number of refusals by restaurants and shops when, once again, I was refused entry because I have a guide dog.
I visited the restaurant, which I have chosen not to name, but was told I couldn’t enter as people could have allergies. This, by the way, is unlawful.
They later changed their reason - saying they simply had no space.
It’s difficult to describe how this feels.
I don’t think you can understand it unless you know what it is like to face daily discrimination.
I compare the feeling to December 2022 when I was briefly robbed of my smartphone near the BBC building in central London.
Unlike street robberies, refusals are rarely violent or physical, but the feeling of being slugged in the gut is identical.
I argue refusals feel worse - because at least I can understand the motivation of robbers.

The laws are all the same, yes...
It’s a lack of enforcement in the UK and I guess less of a civil lawsuit culture that means these things are ignored
Muslims are behind this. Dogs are unclean to Muslims.
CC
Geez, don’t you get it, it’s a Muslim thing.
“Support” animals.
smh
I hope he can find those who will do business with him. There must be someone who can help him find those people.
Sadly, there are plenty of people who are hostile towards people who have bona fide severe disabilities. They make the world a sick place.
Oh bullScheiff. The author certainly has enough energy to emote against his alledged denial of service (never happens), which is most likely his own sorry sad story.
the problem is that there is no training qualification for a service animal...if the service animals had to pass a training and be registered it would get rid of 90% of the problems. dogs like guid dogs are highly trained and would not have a problem with registering. the worse abusers of using service dogs actually don’t do anything but claim there dog is a service dog. there is no prescription and legally all you can ask is does it perform a service. the whole thing is messed up.
I don't see them In restaurants, ( healthlaws)or I would leave.
1/2 of dog owners give the other half a bad name. P.s. keep your dog off my lawn, that cheap dog food you feed them, causes wild onions and garlic to bloom where ever they do their businesses, and you can't pick up pee that destroys the grass and young trees it's been applied to
Muslims are behind this. Dogs are unclean to Muslims.
Oh the irony……
Yes - one woman I spoke to had her dog near a hot buffet at a grocery store and said ti was against the law for them to deny her to bring in her dog. I told her there was a big difference between an actual guide dog and an ‘emotional support animal’.
She mad.
so this is a legit blind person who needs a guide dog, or just a jackass who wants to bring the dog everywhere?
Dogs don’t belong in every space.
It’s likely really because of muslims but everyone is afraid to admit the truth.
I’ve encountered blind people with seeing eye dogs and you can always tell by the harness they wear.
Plus the dogs are EXTREMELY well behaved. They are highly trained when when wearing the harness are on duty as trained. The dog’s focus is on doing his job.
How do you put those little blue vests.... oh, never mind you probably just put a big one on the whole jar.
That makes sense.
It’s prolly the Mooselimb shopkeepers refusing to let his dog into their shop.....
This is almost certainly because we tolerate liberals and their stupid ideas.
These morons destroy all that they touch.
“handicap parking spots used to be for people in a wheelchair”
I never heard that. My doctors insisted that I use handicap spaces for a couple of months after hip replacements. No wheelchair, but crutches and/or cane.
Also, Dad was told to use them when his heart began to fail to a dangerous level.
What annoys me are the fat people using ride-around shopping carts. And when it’s a fat FAMILY it’s super creepy.
Well then what does he need a blind seeing eye dog for?
BINGO! You posted it before I could.
A few months back I was walking in a Walmart and discovered a pile of dog crap on the floor. I got an employee to take care of it, and they were already aware of it and kicked the dog owner out of the store. It was just someone who thought they were privileged enough to bring in their dog. A presumed democrat voter.
Certain disabled people need these dogs to better their lives. I suspect these dogs are very well trained as to not crap all over the place at will.
I went somewhere where EXTREMELY well trained dogs got in my car and walked around sniffing things.
The dog always started out focused on what he was supposed to be doing then became focused on my ham sandwich.
