President-elect Trump plans to fire Jack Smith and his entire team from the Department of Justice “within two seconds” of taking office in January.
During an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Trump was asked whether he intends to fire himself or fire Smith outright. Smith, who was appointed by Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2022, has charged the president-elect with multiple felonies relating to his questioning of the 2020 election results. He also brought a separate case against Trump for mishandling classified documents, though the charges were thrown out by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon earlier this year.
“It’s so easy. I would fire him within two seconds,” Trump told Hewitt. “He’ll be one of the first things addressed.”
The Washington Post, citing sources close to the Trump transition team, soon reported on additional details concerning the president-elect’s plan for Smith and his team. “President-elect Donald Trump plans to fire the entire team that worked with special counsel Jack Smith to pursue two federal prosecutions against the former president, including career attorneys typically protected from political retribution,” the outlet reported.
Smith — who has the distinction of having one of his cases unanimously overturned by the Supreme Court — has largely operated in secret. His taxpayer-funded team was double the size of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team in the bogus Russian collusion investigation, which employed a dozen Democrat lawyers.
Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch previously filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the DOJ for records disclosing the names of Jack Smith’s team of lawyers and staffers. The Biden DOJ has since filed a motion with a federal court to keep the names of Smith’s team members secret.
Once Trump takes office, he will have the ability to fire Smith immediately, who has previously claimed that he intends to resign in order to avoid being terminated.“I don’t think they’ll impeach me if I fire Jack Smith,” Trump told Hewitt. “Jack Smith is a scoundrel.”
In addition to firing Smith’s team, the Trump DOJ intends to launch its own investigation into the 2020 election results and associated allegations of fraud. The president-elect’s new nominee for attorney general, former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, has previously called for corrupt prosecutors to face prosecution themselves.
Refuse to accept their resignations and then fire them.
I, Donald John Trump, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. And Jack Smith is fired. So help me God.
They’ll all slink away before inaugural day.
This must take ‘that sinking feeling’ to new depths never imagined by regular people.
Sleep in the bed you’ve made Mr. Smith. We will make sure we enjoy it.
And throw them all in jail within 2 weeks, please.
>>
Don’t fire them. Investigate, charge and convict them.
>>
You will never get a conviction.
What must happen is very specific charges must be brought, in Florida which is Trump’s home state. Get out of the DC courts.
Then THE MOST IMPORTANT PART is the charges must dodge any sort of government activities. These people have their legal fees paid for when they are being prosecuted for things they did as employees. It is THIS which must be dodged.
The fine is the legal fees. That is how to destroy them. Legal fees. That means long, protracted prosecution for something as bizarre as bumping into someone on when on vacation.
Yes, customary to demand the resignation of all federal DAs.
Ha ha ha yes!
It’s so pathetic to see a dozen SWAT guys with M16s bust through a door and circle an 85 year old arthritic woman because her library book is over due.
I’m pretty sure this isn’t news to anyone. Trump has been saying it for quite awhile.
Yep, they will never be convicted in DC. Charge them in Florida and make the process bankrupt them.
I would really like to see every last person involved in the Seditious Conspiracy to Overthrow the United States Presidency ARRESTED, DENIED BAIL and Prosecuted. Don’t forget about the Mar A Lago raid, they did NOT find the Crossfire Hurricane records they were looking for that they wanted to destroy and have vanish from history, which means Trump still has them.
Since the special prosecutor, wasn’t, (At least per Judge Cannon in Fl) it will be interesting to see the maneuverings to claim it was government activities and not private citizen activities by the whole gang working with Smith.
The new DOJ might want to claw back all the funds erroneously given the the Smith frauds. That would be amusing to watch, too.
sounds good (and necessary, we need to clean up the corruption in Washington including the corruption of our justice system)

He ought to have the paperwork ready and as soon as he gets sworn in should fire Smith and authorize border patrol to close the border
Clinton fired all uS Attorneys on his first day
All he has to do is demand the resignation letters from every appointed position and then he can decide which ones he will accept and which ones he will retain.
Why wait that long. I was expecting that Jack Smith would be fired within 1 millisecond.
