I was there in 1963, and later became a volunteer at the Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Even though the trauma rooms have changed with renovations, one still gets an eerie feeling when walking through this ER. It was a stain on our City, which was not a City of Hate, but loved Kennedy when he came through. My mother was working Downtown on that fateful day, and watched JFK's final turn on Commerce Street. I wasn't in Dallas but in South Texas. It was strange watching Cronkite live reporting right after it happened. I saw it because I happened to be home sick from school that day.

But the bigger shock was seeing Ruby get shot. We were watching TV coverage when he was shot. Did I see it live or a replay? Dunno. But I remember the confusion when it happened. It was a big deal.

Many others think they have this one all figured out but I am not sure. I don't think we will ever really know what all happened.

I was 13. I knew a bit about politics...including the Iron Curtain. The "Cuban Missile Crisis" wasn't long ago.

I was in school...a Catholic school...when in the afternoon the principal came on the PA system and announced that something terrible had happened but she didn't give any details. The announcement was about 20 seconds long.

After the announcement some of us were afraid that the Russians were gonna attack. So any time we heard a plane fly overhead we were afraid it would drop a bomb on us.

I remember that day as a senior in High School. We were in Shop class when a student ran in saying Kennedy had been shot. We all then went into the shop area and turned on a car radio in the shop and heard the news.

1981. Reagan shot. ABC went bonkers over it. When it was mentioned that the handgun had been bought in Dallas, Frank Reynolds, the news reporter threw his hands in the air and yelled...”A-G-G-G-H! DALLAS!”

The best book I have read on the Kennedy assassination is "Best Evidence. by Daniel S. Lifton. It focuses on The President's body, so obviously much of it involves Parkland.

I was in Air Force tech training at the time. Dallas was considered a bastion of right wingedness and media/left knee jerk reaction was to blame that cohort. But I must say the hation as a whole...republican, democrat, whatever... was profoundly shocked and took it personally. A deep insult to the fabric and soul of the country. But then that was when America was still America. As witnessed by the reaction of many at the President Trump near miss, a whole swath of the country no longer has a soul.
