For sure, the XKE is without a doubt one of the most beautiful cars in history. They always been that beautiful high maintenance woman who will drive you insane if you stay with her. As you say now this.
I put about 100K miles on an MG Midget, and I worked on that car all the time.
Here I let a bunch of kids sit in my car at the Drum Corps DCI Finals in 1978...

I must have been in a really good mood that day!
**I owned a β72 XJ6.**
I bought a 74 XJ6 sedan in 1996. The previous owner also had 2 XKEs, a roadster and a coupe. He had converted the XJ to GM, radiator to the driveshaft. 350 v8, and 400 AT.
It looked nearly flawless, was wonderful to drive, and was reliable with very low maintenance.
In 2000 we moved from living next to a rural highway, to a mile and a half country gravel road. We simply weren’t going to drive that car on gravel, so we sold it.
If I remember correctly, Chevy 350ci were desirable convesions
Pitiful. PIT-I-FUL. As Jed Clampett would say.
bttt
As a ‘68 MGB owner [hasn’t been out of the garage for >30 years],
I’m stealing that pic.
[It’s too true.]
Vehicular interior volume is the ultimate luxury in practice.
Jaguars are too tight.
XKE was not high maintenance.
In fact, MUCH more reliable than most cars that came after.
If prices were not insane now I would have one as my daily driver.
It had (if I can recall correctly) three vertically mounted Stromberg carburetors, highly polished with conical air intakes funnels that had coarse screens over them.
Amazing. He was nearly 70 years old, and was probably 5'5", built rectangularly like a solid brick, and had huge meaty hands with scars all over them, and he had the rheumy blue eyes with a trace of cataract in them.
He was unmarried and I think divorced, and dated a number of far younger, very attractive women, who he drove around with him in his car.
He lived in the unfinished attic of his garage which was a Mecca for foreign car owners needing service on all types from Rolls Royces to Sunbeam Tigers, British cars were his specialty. He lived simply, a small bed, a hot-plate, and he heated it with oil he drained from cars.
When he went out, he was a very snazzy dresser, always with a neat sport jacket and tie, polished shoes, and a fedora on his head.
I admired him, and he treated me very well when I asked him for advice when I worked on my MG Midget. Family...:)
He worked with his nephew, a young unmarried guy who drove an absolute shitbox, but was a very good mechanic. He treated me very well too, and gave advice to me freely.
My uncle was out in his Jaguar one day, and a dumptruck cut in front of him and nearly took off the front of that beautiful Jaguar. I can nearly hear him growl "That dickless f**k" when he talked about it.
His brother raced cars back in the Twenties (my uncle was the mechanic) and this picture survives:
Here is PJW talking about the Jaguar commercial, but check out the end of his video...the Porsche commercial is even more ominous:

‘68 G-reg 340 and ‘75 N-reg XJ3.4 here. Both over 10 years old when I got them. Not for the faint of heart or wallet.
Winner!
All they need to do now is swap out the βJβ in Jaguar for a βFβ.
‘Effing degenerate filthbags who’ll stop at nothing to bury the traditional West. My hatred of leftists is bottomless.
That commercial was fantastic.
aka ‘Prince of Darkness’
Truth in advertising.
If that were made today there would t have been a white guy to be seen. βMaryβ would have looked moe African too.
